THE LEGACY OF FRENCH

The Legacy of Percy French ( 1854-1920)  is a performance of music, stories and song, that celebrates the works and remarkable life of Irelands greatest songwriter. The show and music CD by Peadar MacMahon and Friends has been delighting audiences at festivals in the USA for the past few years. It received a wonderful reception when it had it's Irish debut at  the Percy French Festival in Castlecoote, Co.Roscommon in 2016. The show is returning again in July this year to the festival and other venues in Ireland.

Peadar is a native of Limerick but has been living in Bellingham, Washington since 1990, where he has continued to perform and record Irish and American folk and old time music. His performances are charming, heartfelt , engaging and educational. He offers his audience a greater connection to the songs through the telling of their stories and his own.

Percy French entertained audiences in small village halls all over Ireland from the 1890's until the time of his death in 1920. While most Irish audiences have grown accustomed to hearing his songs performed by Irish Tenors, they were originally composed by Percy French for his banjo and relaxed baritone. Peadar MacMahon's folk arrangements and use of a banjo pay tribute to how they were originally performed.

These songs continue to be cherished wherever Irish people gather. You can listen and download the songs for free at peadarmacmahon.com .Please feel free to sing along !
